Looking at Lillies -A selection of collage pieces by Sarah Ritchie

Born in 1937, Sarah Ritchie has been painting from a very early age. In the early 50’s she was selected from among the most talented young secondary students to attend the  Castle Toward summer school.

The first painting she sold (always an exciting moment for an artist)  was at a juried exhibition in 1965 in Glenrothes. She had been attending Art classes there, while still a young wife and mother of three. The landscape was purchased by the then chairman of the Chamber of Commerce in Edinburgh, Sarah’s work was also selected to be part of a mixed touring exhibition.
Having moved to the Scottish Borders in the 1970’s, Sarah continued to take part in juried exhibitions there. Sarah  continued to develop her talent through attending night classes, college courses and workshops. She has had several succesful exhibitions and participated on a number of occasions in the forth valley open studios event.

Now in her mid eighties, she is still just as excited by new artistic ventures.
